Questions Families Commonly Ask
We know starting therapy can come with a lot of questions. Here are some of the most common things families ask before getting started.
Do I need a referral to schedule an evaluation? In most cases, no referral is required to schedule an evaluation. If your insurance plan requires one for reimbursement, we recommend confirming directly with your provider.
Will my child be placed on a waitlist? Availability can vary depending on provider schedules and service needs. If a waitlist is in place, our team will walk you through expected timing and next steps.
Are sessions in person or virtual? Depending on the type of service and your needs, sessions may be offered in person or virtually. Our team can help determine the best fit for your situation.
Do you accept cash? Yes. We accept multiple forms of payment.
Do you accept personal checks? Please confirm with our office regarding current payment policies.
Do you see adults? Yes. While many families come to us for pediatric services, we also support adults with oral function, myofunctional therapy, TMJ-related concerns, swallowing support, and other functional therapy needs.
Do you treat infants with feeding difficulties? Yes. We commonly support infants experiencing challenges with: Latch difficulties Bottle feeding concerns Feeding inefficiency Oral motor coordination Tongue function concerns
Do you treat bi-weekly? Treatment frequency depends on clinical recommendations, goals, and provider availability. We create personalized care plans based on what makes the most sense for progress.
Will myofunctional therapy eliminate the need for braces? Not necessarily. Myofunctional therapy supports healthier oral function, muscle coordination, breathing patterns, and oral posture—but orthodontic recommendations are determined individually. Therapy often works alongside orthodontic care, not necessarily instead of it.
Can you help with TMJ concerns? Yes. Depending on your symptoms and needs, we may be able to support oral function patterns contributing to TMJ discomfort.
Can you help with speech issues related to thumb sucking? Yes. Persistent oral habits can influence oral muscle patterns, swallowing, oral posture, and speech development. We evaluate the bigger picture to determine what support may help.
If my child already had an evaluation somewhere else, do we need another one? Sometimes, yes. Because our approach focuses on the whole picture—including oral function, feeding, breathing, muscle coordination, and communication—we may recommend our own evaluation to ensure we have the most accurate and complete understanding before beginning care.
Do you offer appointments on weekends? Please contact our office for current scheduling availability, including extended or specialty appointment options.
What does out-of-network mean? Being out-of-network means we do not bill directly through insurance as an in-network provider. However, many families may still be eligible for reimbursement depending on their plan. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to understand your specific out-of-network benefits.
What forms of payment do you accept? Accepted payment methods may include: Credit cards HSA / FSA cards Cash Other approved payment methods Please contact our office for the most current payment options.
Do you offer sibling discounts? Please contact our team for questions about family scheduling and payment options.
What ages do you work with? We support clients across the lifespan - from infants experiencing feeding challenges to adults seeking oral function or myofunctional care.
Do you work with children who are tube fed? This depends on your child’s individual needs and goals. Please contact our office so we can determine whether our services are the right fit.
How long does myofunctional therapy take? Every client is different. The timeline depends on age, goals, symptoms, consistency, and how long the functional patterns have been present. Because therapy focuses on retraining muscle patterns - not quick fixes - it is typically a process completed over time.
Can I just get exercises before my tongue tie release? Effective care starts with understanding your specific needs. In many cases, evaluation is recommended before beginning exercises so support is personalized, safe, and clinically appropriate.
How is your speech therapy different from what my child receives at school? School-based speech therapy and private therapy often serve different purposes. School services focus on educational impact. Private therapy can take a broader approach, including speech clarity, oral motor function, feeding, swallowing, communication, and underlying functional concerns.
Is there free parking? Yes—free parking is available at 61 Winter Street.
